I am not a politician, but I am a Reagan conservative.

I am definitely for smaller government, less bureaucracy, fewer taxes, and maintaining the wisdom provided in the Constitution.

While serving as your U.S. Senator, I will represent the entire State of Washington.

I will also work on issues and solutions that cross party lines and ideological barriers.

For example, I will work to:

• Create Jobs for legal Washington State residents
• Improve the relatively poor performance of our K-12 education system
• Reduce the growing number and impact of frivolous lawsuits
• Stop abusive practices by credit card companies
• Simplify the overly complex Federal income tax code
• Obtain a better Trade Balance with Asia
• Re-focus the mis-guided objectives for the war in Afghanistan

    Why I am Running-

I am running for the US Senate for two reasons.

First, I am overwhelmingly tired of the partisan behavior of our representatives. Our Senators and Congressional Representatives need to vote for the betterment of our nation and the State of Washington, not for their party, lobbyists, financial interests, or for their political careers.

The second reason is that I feel that my training and experience related to national defense, the global environment, the physics of energy solutions, and education have prepared me well to understand the complex problems facing our nation and will help me discern the best path forward. I want to serve the people of Washington State and our nation the best that I can, but two terms is my limit.

Warmest Regards

James "Skip" Mercer
